How long will it take?

Typically cleaning up viruses and malware takes three hours, power issues from one to seven hours, networks depend on the number of computers to be connected together (an hour per computer would be typical). Non-booting Windows is difficult to say as there might be a hardware issue as well as a software issue.

What if it just can't be fixed there and then?

Although we usually fix computers on site, if the job is a long one requiring specialist equipment, the technician might need to take your hard drive away overnight (for very detailed scans, large amounts of data to be recovered etc). Please do not use us if you are unwilling to part with your drive long enough for it to be fixed! We guarantee data recovery or a fix or we do not charge you. To travel several miles only to be prevented from doing the job we came for will incur a cancellation fee of 25 pounds.

Payment

Please pay the technician on the day. Cash or cheques (with a cheque guarantee card) is fine. For jobs involving you posting your computer to us you will be sent an email invoice.

How can I help?

Tea. Make sure you have lots of tea available. PC technicians live on tea and they like fresh tea every 45 minutes! Also they prefer to be left in peace while they diagnose the issue. It can be very difficult to pinpoint exactly why a computer is misbehaving - especially as a computer will often have more than one thing at once wrong with it. The technician might also need to pour over motherboard manuals, diagnostic flowcharts etc. The work will be three times faster if they are left alone to do this.

OK! Peace, quiet and tea. Got that! What else?

You can also back up any crucial documents to CD or removeable storage before the technician arrives. This isn't very hard and will save you having to pay for the time the technician would take doing it. It might turn out to have been unneccessary, but it never hurts to have your data backed up.
